The mainland portion of the Park will become a reserve for the two first Nations. The rights of owners of land abutting Little Grassy River are intact. In addition to the land, the First Nations will receive compensation totaling $4,060,000 from the Canada, and $1,565,000 from the Province of Ontario, to be placed in a joint trust. The Trust was meant to be placed in a trust fund to benefit the future of our children. This is a very important component, which ensures what the elders wanted. ![]() "If there is a settlement, it will give a lot of optimism to our youth -- to help build an interpretive centre on this land. It will benefit our neighbours by attracting tourism to the area and providing employment to our people...Our people will heal and have better relations with our neighbours. That is my hope." -- Tony Copenace, Ojibways of Onigaming |
